Join the DSWAI in an exciting opportunity happening this year in the magnificent Croatian landscape.

We are seeking students, young professionals, interested individuals or skilled wallers  to travel and explore the Croatian dry stone landscape at the 15th International Heritage School -  Petrebišća  2025. 

This event takes place from May 31st to June 8th, 2025 in the dry stone village of  Petrebišća in the Učka Mountains.

This event is being organised and is supported by funding from the ECHOES - Enhancing Cultural Heritage Skills Across Europe project with the support of the  Učka Nature Park and the Municipality of Mošćenička Draga.

The 2025 Heritage School is a collaboration between Dragodid, Croatia, Boulouki, Greece and  DSWAI, Ireland. These organisations will share their experiences and knowledge on traditional building techniques, ecological sustainability and create an opportunity to share and exchange skills and knowledge in the area of heritage preservation.

Petrebišća is a picturesque seasonal village nestled in the Učka Mountains above the village of Mošćenička Draga. Of major historical and cultural significance the site of Petrebišća has been the centre of learning since 2010, hosting a wide range of traditional building skills workshops.

This event is an opportunity to undertake skills training in a number of areas including

- the basics of dry stone walling

- shaping stone using hand tools

- restoration work on village houses, of drystone and wood composition

- repair a traditional stone slate roof

- attend talks, workshops and presentations in the areas of rural architectural heritage and      environmental sustainability

- guided hiking through the  Učka  nature park will also be on offer

- Travel, fees and other participation costs will be covered.

- Participants must be capable of a 2 hour hike

- Accommodation will be camping and while amenities will be on the less luxurious side all efforts are being made to provide for the comfort of all participants

- Participants must be willing to travel on the 30 or 31st of May 2025 for the outward journey and return on June 8th or 9th.
